T'afia and Beaver's
If someone visits from out of town, what are places they can't miss?
The presidents' heads [David Adickes' studio on Summer Street], the Art Car Museum, the Menil, the Rothko Chapel, the Byzantine chapel, really all the museums, some great restaurants, the first mall (The Galleria), but mostly they just need to meet people here.
Where are people most likely to find you in Houston?
At t'afia or Beaver's or Tiny Boxwoods, or 13 Celsius, Dolce Vita, Niko Niko, the park with Lili, the Menil hanging from the trees.
When describing Houston to friends that have never been here, what do you tell them?
It really is a small town for me with a handful of cafes/restaurants, good friends, art, culture, people doing their thing, great people.
Describe your perfect day in Houston.
Hanging with whoever I run into at Tiny's or 13 Celsius and just floating around with my daughter, going to the park or the movies or staying home and relaxing.
What makes Houston special?
The people. The heat makes them so nice and friendly.
What are your favorite places to eat? Shop?
Tiny Boxwoods, 13 Celsius, Dolce Vita, Gravitas, Beaver's, The Grove; I shop at Thompson-Hansen, Sloan/Hall, Kuhl-Linscomb, Surroundings, Abejas, Raye.
What is Houston’s best kept secret?
The quality of life--weather, people, food, cost of living...
Is there anything else you want to say about Houston?
I'm glad I returned home.
