Consular Relations
With approximately 90 consulates in the area, the Houston International Protocol Alliance works to advise and assist consular officials in their interactions with the Houston community. Our involvement encompasses a wide range of activities, from supplying newcomers with information about Houston to working with the State Department on credentials and security issues, all with the goal of making the Houston tenure of these officials as productive and pleasant as possible. We also encourage and assist the Consular Corps in their efforts to bring visiting government dignitaries, business delegations, trade opportunities and cultural events to Houston.
The Houston International Protocol Alliance publishes The Consular Corps of Houston Directory, which contains a complete listing of the foreign consular offices in Houston, information on how to address consular officials, and a glossary of important terms.
The Protocol Alliance maintains the Consular Task Force, a lobbying organization composed of leaders in the international community and representatives of organizations that work closely with the Consular Corps. The mission of the Task Force is to maintain the current level of consular offices in the city and to attract additional consulates when there is a need.
