Can you please recommend a tour bus company that has the capacity to accommodate a group of 40 children plus chaperones for a two day guided tour in the end of March? We will be part of an international conference taking place in Houston and and trying to plan a sibling outing for the siblings of children affected by a rare genetic duplication. As the families are traveling from all over the world to attend, we are trying to stay on a relatively low budget. I thank you in advance for your help. Best, Deniz
Hi Veronica, We're having a small, family-only wedding ceremony December 22nd. It's on a bit of a budget, but we still want it to be as nice as possible... Dinner will be at an upscale restaurant in River Oaks and want to go out afterwards to a nice venue, maybe with a band, where we could reserve a section and all be together as a family before my fiance and I head out on our honeymoon... any recommendations?
I would look into Sambuca (just downtown - they have an upstairs private room that isn't completely closed off so you can still hear the music).
The Tasting Room has a small private room that may work, depending on the size of your group. They also have live music from time to time.
Red Cat Jazz Cafe is fun, but small, and I don't believe they have a private room. But they do have live music.
Hope this helps - let me know if you have any other questions.
My Wife want's to go to the best vegan restaurant in Houston, can you recommend one ?
Here is a list of vegetarian restaurants in Houston (I'd call and check if they are also Vegan).
Hope this helps,
My husband and I lived in Houston all our lives, but we still don't know where to go to have fun; we've been to Discovery green events, zoo, Kemah, Aquarium, NASA, museum of fine art and Nat. Science, and even tried to Health museum. PLEASE help!
What type of activities do you both like to do? If you give me an idea, I can make some suggestions.
Have you ever checked out our section of itineraries? We have great ideas for every interest, so be sure look them over.
Also, take a peek at our Calendar of Events - it is constantly being updated with new events happening around town.
If you are a foodie, you should definitely try out a Houston Culinary Tour - our 2013 tours are out, so pick out your favorite and sign up to the alerts (they sell out fast!)
Hope this helps - let me know if you have other questions.
Our cruise for next year will end in Houston. I know that flights is around +3 hours Houston to Boston. Question 1: are there reliable trains going to Boston? Question 2: how many hours will it take? Question 3: how much is the fare in first class and in second class? THANK YOU.
A quick search of Amtrak routes shows that there is no direct route between Houston and Boston via train. You would have to travel through Chicago on the way and the entire travel would take approximately 48 hours and cost upwards of $250. I would suggest you go the flight route!
Hi, Veronica. I'm looking for a gift for my mom and her husband. They live in Houston only part of the year, at different times. I'm trying to find a "pick three" kind of package where they could attend performing arts events - but pick the days they go (since they aren't in town all year). Any help you can provide is appreciated!
Many of the performing arts companies offer gift certificates that your parents can redeem for specific seats on a specific date. You can look at options for the Alley Theatre here.
I hope this helps!
from which downtown houston hotel will my family have an unobstructed view of fireworks on new years eve or 4th of july. FYI we tried the hilton across from discovery green and view was obstructed, but the hotel was awesome. Thanks so much!
The fireworks are in different places on New Year's Eve and July 4th. Your best bet for July 4th is the Doubletree Hotel (closest to Eleanor Tinsley Park, where the celebration takes place). For New Year's Eve, the Hilton is definitely the closest to the fireworks in Discovery Green--is that when you stayed there and had obstructed views? I'd also look into the Four Seasons, Embassy Suites and Inn at the Ballpark. It all depends on the direction your room is facing, too.
Hope this helps,
Dear Veronica, After 2 years finally heading back home for the holidays! I am in the military and been out of the loop whats new in Houston. What is worthy of visiting or checking out. I am there late december for a bout 3 weeks. We have a 3 Yrld we always do the city pass but i feel like theres more i am missing out on?
I have all kinds of information for you. First and foremost, here's our list of holiday events--lots of great things to do here.
The CityPASS is always a great option, and some of the attractions on the pass have new additions. For example, the Houston Museum of Natural Science opened a new Hall of Paleontology in June that's pretty spectacular.
I'd also take a day and drive down to Galveston to visit the new Historic Pleasure Pier, which features all kinds of games and rides overlooking the water.
Have a great time!
Hi, We are going to H for a 8 weeks stay january/february due to a hospital stay . While our youngest are having treatment we would like our daugther (17) and son (13) to join an english course in the periode. What are the possibilities near md Andersson hospital. Regards Claus
Just to be clear, I believe you're asking about a non-credit English language course, correct? There are a number of adult programs but programs that focus on children are more difficult to come by. I recommend you look into the English as a Second Language Program at Rice University. This is quite close to the Texas Medical Center and MD Anderson. There are a number of different options and I believe there youth component to the program that will work for your children if the timing works out.
I would also recommend you consider looking for a private tutor during your stay who could focus on just your children. It may be more expensive but I believe it would be more productive and you wouldn't have to worry about time time constraints. You can look for one via this site.
Is there a way i can get a list of the events that will take place here in houston for the full year and next to the event a list of the hotels near the event. Thank You
Unfortunately we have not yet put together the list of annual events for next year. We will be doing that this month. This is the page where that list goes and where it will be updated. As for hotels, we do not have a list that matches the hotels to the events, but you can search for hotels by area of town in that section of our website.
Again, please check back toward the end of the month and this should be updated!
