Conference Permit
Submitted by Vannie from San Antonio on 08-05-2012
Question:

How much does it cost to get a permit to host a conference of about 2500 people in Houston.

Answer:

Vannie,

You don't need a permit to host a conference in Houston.  I suggest you fill out our RFP form, and someone from our convention sales team will contact you to help you get started.  They'll send out leads for hotels, connect you with the convention center, etc. If you have additional questions, please let me know!

Nightlife
Submitted by Marty from houston on 08-03-2012
Question:

Hi my friend and I are looking for an upscale bar/lounge in the galleria area with a middle aged croud for after dinner drinks ? What would you recommend ?

Answer:

Hi Marty,

I think I can help you out. I've heard good things about Prohibition, but it's relatively new and I haven't had a chance to experience it yet. Restaurant RDG + Bar Annie is a fun spot, as is the downstairs lounge at Philippe. The Tasting Room is a great wine bar as well.

That's a good little short list, but if you want more suggestions, let me know!

Retreat
Submitted by Katrina from Mobile, AL on 08-02-2012
Question:

Hi Veronica, as a member of my church's Fellowship Retreat committe, I have chosen Houston as the place to visit next year.I need your help in determining where to stay and what attractions to visit. We will have ages 2 to 70 attending, we like easy access to dining and shopping. We are no facny group of people, we like to keep is fun but simple.

Answer:

Hi Katrina,

Let me start by suggesting that you fill out a request for proposal for your trip with us. Our team can help you find just the right spot for your group that will satisfy your needs and keep you in budget. We do the work to make it a better experience for you.

That said, I think you guys should look at Downtown properties because of the easy access to restaurants and nightlife (where appropriate) and because its close to the the rail line which will take the group to the Museum District, the Zoo and so on.

You guys might also be interested in Houston CityPASS, which gives you access to all of the city's top attractions at a significant discount.

Here's also a list of inexpensive restaurants around the area.

I hope this helps!

Adventure
Submitted by Chass from Houston on 08-02-2012
Question:

I'm taking my boyfriend to houston for his birthday and I wanted to know what kind of adventureous things are there in Houston? ex: ziplining, rock wall climbing, boat ride, ect.

Answer:

Hi Chass,

Sounds like you want to plan something special. We just recently put together a lineup of water-related activities, from jetskiing to kayaking etc. You can read all about it here.

As far as other adventures, you could try out soaring. The extreme sport of soaring uses sailplanes for motor-less flight so people can experience the feeling glide through the air. Located just east of Wallis, Texas, the Greater Houston Soaring Association offers gliding every weekend, weather permitting. You can also check out Texas Rock Gym for a rock wall experience.

Question:

Hi, we are coming to Houston to catch an astro's game on august 17.. can you give me some good hotels close to the stadium? and we are bringing our kids with us (ages 5 &8) can you suggest some family friendly things we can do while in for the weekend? thanks Nicole

Answer:

Nicole,

Minute Maid Park is located in downtown, so there are many hotels that are close by.  The closest is Inn at the Ballpark, which is directly across the street.  Another nearby hotel is the Alden Hotel. Click here for a comprehensive list of downtown hotels.

There are so many family-friendly things to do around Houston.  We've put together a three-day family itinerary--you'll get all kinds of ideas here.

If you have additional questions, let me know!

what to do
Submitted by Angel from Houston on 07-29-2012
Question:

what can i do downtown houston ? (sightseeing)

Answer:

Angel,

There is so much to do in downtown!  It's home to pro sports teams like the Astros, Rockets and Aeros, as well as year-round resident companies in all the major performing arts. And thanks to recent efforts to develop the area's culinary and nightlife scene, downtown enjoys a following that extends beyond the 9 to 5 hours. Catch a show or enjoy a night out at the Houston Pavilions. The four-block, mixed-use development brings fresh energy to the area with a House of Blues, Pete's Dueling Piano Bar, Lucky Strike Lanes and nearly a dozen restaurants. While you're in the area, swing by the 12-acre Discovery Green for live music, a farmers market, fitness classes and (in the winter) ice-skating on Kinder Lake. Click here for more details on downtown.

Also, thanks to the MetroRail, it's easy to hop on the train and head to Midtown or the Museum District.

Let me know if you have additional questions!

showing a friend a good time
Submitted by Kimberly from Around Minute Maid Park on 07-29-2012
Question:

Hey Veronica, I have a friend visiting from Dallas and I want to show her how awesome Houston is. What is something fun that can be done from 1-4pm on a Sunday. It would be great if the cost was at the low end of the scale, and the location close to Minute Maid Park, but those aren't necessarily requirements

Answer:

Hi Kimberly,

What do you enjoy doing? Shopping, dining, attractions?

First, here is a link to the Calendar of Events. You can narrow down events to a specific day as well.  The International Jazz Festival is happening this coming weekend, if you're into music.

Another good option is taking your friend to an Astros baseball game if they are in town.

You can easily venture over to the Museum District, the Zoo or Miller Outdoor Theatre by using the Metro light rail.  The Titanic exhibit is in Houston until September  3rd at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. We have a fabulous coupon to HMNS in the Coupons section of the site.

If you're looking to do a fun brunch, check out the gospel brunch at the House of Blues

Hope this helps,

Veronica

visiting
Submitted by Barbara Smith from Robbins, il on 07-28-2012
Question:

Hello Veronica, I plan to visit Houston in the next six months and i will be there for a month can you recommend some extended living places, also I had considered renting a room, any ideas would be appreciated. Also I would like to know of the nightlife where there is the Chicago style of dancing. thank you

Answer:

Hi Barbara,

Welcome to Houston! We have a great search tool on our website for extended stay hotels - go to the Hotels section of the website, and scroll down to the listings search.  You can narrow the search to area of town and select "extended stay" under subcategory to find a list of options.

I don't know of any Chicago style dance clubs in Houston, but Bayou Place and Drink Houston are a good option if you're looking to dance.

Best,

Veronica
