It’s that time of year again with the James Beard Foundation announces the semifinalists for its Restaurant and Chef Awards and in 2015, Houston didn’t disappoint.

In the Best Chef Southwest category, Terrence Gallivan and Seth Siegel-Gardner of The Pass made the semifinals, as did Hugo Ortega of Hugo’s and Justin Yu of Oxheart.

In the Outstanding Bar Program, Anvil Bar & Refuge will compete against 19 other establishments. It was the only Texas bar to make the list.

Finally, Hugo’s restaurant also earned nods for its drink list, earning a nomination in the Outstanding Wine Program category.

Ortega and Yu were both named finalists for Best Chef Southwest in 2014, though the award went to another Houston talent—Chef Chris Shepherd of Underbelly.

The James Beard Foundation will announce the finalists for the Restaurant and Chef Award Nominees on March 24, with the winners being named on May 4 at the 2015 James Beard Awards gala.
