Next year a Houston franchisee of Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas will open two new locations, including the first inside the Loop in Midtown.

Triple Tap Ventures LLC, which owns and operates the cinemas at West Oaks Mall and on Mason Road in Katy, says it's planning both new locations for 2013 but did not specify a month.

The company did say that the first new Alamo to open will be in Northwest Houston at Vintage Park Shopping Village off of Tomball Parkway 249 and Louetta Road. That "Venetian Piazza"-inspired center consists of 324,000 square feet of retail and professional space.

The second location will be the Midtown cinema, slated to open in a new mixed-use project being developed by Crosspoint Properties at 2901 Louisiana St. (near Tuam).

Both locations will offer state-of-the-art auditoriums with digital projection and sound. The Midtown location will also have an expansive lobby bar with panoramic views of Downtown Houston. The theater will be on top of a three-floor parking garage with a ground-floor lobby entrance.

The company says that with more than 700,000 residents living within 15 minutes of the Midtown site, it makes sense to open now.

In November a new Sundance Cinemas opened Downtown in a space formerly inhabited by Angelika Film Center. The latter company closed suddenly in late 2010.

Triple Tap Ventures says it will close the older Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at West Oaks Mall this year as it focuses attention on the newer properties.
