A $200,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts will help the Houston Arts Alliance realize a project that marries art with transportation.

The grant is part of a national NEA program that helps transform communities by bringing arts into the urban core. The Houston Arts Alliance's project, titled Transported & Renewed, will focus on the city's obsession with movement and transportation. Modes of transport such as railroads, art cars, ships and even dragon boats will be explored through the initiative, which will debut in 2014 to coincide with the centennial of the Port of Houston and the expansion the MetroRail.

The NEA gave out more than $4.7 million to 59 different communities nationwide.
