Players in the Houston art scene will receive major honors at an awards event in New York next month.

The U.S. section of the International Association of Art Critics presents awards each year to artists, curators, museums, galleries and other institutions recognizing excellence in exhibitions. Twenty-four winners will receive awards in 12 categories at the event in April.

Among this year's winners are:

• Co-curators Josef Helfenstein and Isabel Schulz at the Menil Collection, for Kurt Schwitters' Color and Collage
• Co-curator Bill Arning at the Contemporary Art Museum Houston, for Stan VanDerBeek's The Cultural Intercom

Ai Weiwei's larger-than-life sculpture, Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads, currently on exhibit here at Hermann Park also won an award for best project in a public space.

The International Association of Art Critics awards are set for April 2 at the Asia Society in New York.
