United Airlines and the Houston Airport System announced that they will break ground May 11 on a new terminal at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. 


The new terminal is a $244 million project that includes 20 new dining and retail options as well as 11 boarding gates. The 265,000-square-foot concourse will be 100,000 square feet larger than the existing Terminal C North.

The new terminal is part of a larger effort to renovate the Mickey Leland International Terminal D. With nearly 560 daily flights to over 180 destinations around the world, United's Houston operations will build the new international concourse after Terminal C North is completed in early 2017. United and the city of Houston recently finished a $149 million upgrade of the Terminal B South concourse which hosts around 300 regional flights daily.

The IAH terminal renovations include plans to add some of Houston's favorite hometown restaurants including James Beard Award winner Nancy Silverton's bakery La Brea, local chef Bryan Caswell's 3rdBar Oyster & Eating HouseTony's Wine Cellar & BistroThe Breakfast KlubCafé AdobePink's Pizza, and Hubcap Grill.
