SWAMP & FOTOFEST OPEN CALL FOR SHORT FILMS:In cooperation with the 13th biennial photography festival FOTOFEST2010, Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP), is extending a challenge to Texas filmmakers to produce a short film exploring the possibilities and challenges of 21st century life with an open call for submissions of short films (10 minutes max) on the theme of “The American Dream 2010:Visions of 21st Century Life in the USA and in all the Americas, from North to South,” inspired by FotoFest’s focus on Contemporary U.S. Photography. Selected shorts will be screened at a special presentation at the prestigious Brown Auditorium at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on Sunday, April 18, 2010 and receive a variety of special prizes. In addition, shorts will be considered for inclusion in the 34th season of THE TERRITORY (2010-11), SWAMP’s short film showcase series broadcast on Texas PBS stations. Synopsis: Two oblivious stoners try to hit on the only two chicks left at a Halloween costume party, who look like and really are zombies. Lead #1-Joe, Average American guy, early-mid 20’s . Loveable d-bag; Lead #2-Nate, Average American guy, early-mid 20’s. Joe’s best buddy, thinks he is cool. Roles #3 & #4 (Non-Speaking)-2 Females (Zombies), very attractive (even in full zombie makeup), early-mid 20’s, Must be able to convey humor of situation completely through physical comedy. REAL FILMS/DOCUMENTARY ALLIANCE:Present the Houston premiere of “Stop The Presses” feature documentary examining the awful state of the newspaper industry and what its options for survival might look like with filmmakers Manny Mendoza and Mark Birnbaum in attendance. The film combines footage from several papers like the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Miami Herald, Dallas Times News, St. Petersburg Times, and the Philadelphia Inquirer, and interviews from a mix of commentators including Ben Bradley, Walter Cronkite, Dave Berry, and Ed Asner. WOMEN IN FILM TELEVISION HOUSTON (WIFTH):Creating opportunities in Houston since 1995, announces yet another one, and may the Best Screenwriter Win! WIFT’s 100-Mile Short Script Competition is underway. The cash prize is five hundred dollars, plus the opportunity to see your story produced locally by WIFT Members and Industry Professionals. (If you make a living writing for film and television, you are not eligible to enter.) For the next several weeks (late deadline March 31st ), WIFT Houston will be looking for a great short script – one that can then be digitally produced for a budget not to exceed ten thousand dollars. We’re placing an emphasis on strong storytelling and the ability to shoot the script locally. WIFT Houston and Irony Coast Productions will then produce the best live-action narrative script that is judged to be the Winner by a panel of industry professionals. GULF COAST FILM & VIDEO FESTIVAL:Is looking for new and energetic volunteers in the planning, organization and logistics of the upcoming and future festivals. Positions are available for volunteers within the Clear Lake and surrounding areas. Positions are on a volunteer basis, but volunteers will be compensated for their time. The Gulf Coast Film and Video Festival has been bringing the film community alive in Houston through the annual festival, bringing to town stars such as Robert Wuhl, Jasmine Guy and Loretta Swit. 43rd WORLDFEST-HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL FILM & VIDEO FESTIVAL:Has two full time intern positions left. The full-time temporary assignment begins immediately and wraps May 15th. While it is a volunteer position, it is an opportunity to gain experience, contacts, job opportunities, mentoring and meeting film directors and international filmmakers. These are office jobs that involve computers, website and data entry. All interns receive VIP Festival credentials and passes to new films throughout the year.
