The folks behind Mexican-mainstay El Tiempo Cantina have expanded their restaurant empire with the new Washington Avenue-set Laurenzo’s Grille. Opened in December 2009, the prime rib house features upscale décor and a classic American menu.
Inside, authentic sports jerseys and photos dot the walls, as part of a rotating exhibit highlighting the world’s most cherished athletes. (Items are available for purchase and proceeds benefit a rotating list of charities.) Make no mistake though, Laurenzo’s is not a sports bar. In fact, the only place to find the game here is in the restaurant’s cozy bar area.
Expect a menu classic-made-modern dishes like the prime rib-filled flour tacos topped with pico, guacamole and cheese or the green chile bacon burger with green pepper, asadero cheese, arugula and spicy chile mayo. Of course, Laurenzo’s saves the best for last—the richly divine chocolate bread pudding crowned with Kahlúa and ice cream.
