In August 2013, Chef John Sheely of Mockingbird Bistro opened a second Houston restaurant concept, Osteria Mazzantini, inside the Galleria-area BBVA Compass Bank building. There, fans will find a stylish, yet comfortable space, featuring a bar, patio and private dining room.
The northern Italian, Tuscan-inspired venture reflects Sheely's Italian heritage both in name—Mazzantini is his mother’s maiden name—and in cuisine. On the menu, Sheely pays homage to his roots in dishes spotlighting the flavors and culinary traditions of Italy—bucatini alla carbonara, ossobuco and margherita pizza, among others. Fans can expect to find pasta, made in-house daily, and a solid drink menu touting well-priced wines-by-the-glass.
Osteria Mazzantini is open daily for dinner.
