The guys behind Boondocks—a music-minded dive bar in Montrose—have branched out with a new, ski-lodge-like outpost in the Lower Westheimer neighborhood. Royal Oak Bar opened in fall 2010, officially taking over Bartini’s former space and delivering a decidedly different product than its predecessor.
The laser lights, throbbing dance floor and fresh-faced hipsters are out and rustic-chic is in—much to the delight of the professional set that’s flooding the place. Antler chandeliers hang above the bar, dark booths line the interior and a whiskey-heavy menu now take center stage. There’s also a menu loaded with hearty options like Banh Mi burgers, cheesesteak sandwiches and truffle fries.
The bar is open daily, offering regular drinks specials—especially on bourbon, scotch and whiskey libations.
