November and December Convention Business Brings $170.5 Million To Houston (October 19, 2005)
For the months of November and December, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 24 conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB president and CEO Gerard J. “Jordy” Tollett, “more than 175,000 attendees will spend an estimated $170.5 million in Houston during these two months.”

Big 12 Championship Returns to Houston (October 10, 2005)
Houston welcomes the Big 12 Conference Football Championship to Reliant Stadium on Dec. 3, 2005. The big game, whose winner will compete in the Bowl Championship Series, is only one part of the Big 12 festivities taking place in Houston during the first weekend in December.

Haunting Through Houston: A Guide to Houston's Spookiest Sites (October 5, 2005)
Every city seems a little spookier during this time of year—old buildings creak a bit more, the wind howls a little louder and black cats come out of the woodwork. There are always certain locations that make your heart beat a little faster when you enter, and everything is intensified around Halloween. Houston: Buisness as Usual (October 4, 2005)
After providing shelter and support for nearly 100,000 Hurricane Katrina evacuees, Houston missed a direct hit from Hurricane Rita three weeks later when it veered to the east at the last minute. The Greater Houston area escaped hurricane damage, and the city returns to business after a month of devastating storms.

Houston Continues to Welcome Conventions (September 14, 2005)
The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau has been working closely with the George R. Brown Convention Center to continue to accommodate conventions in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston continues to be fully-functional, as are all area hotels.

Fall into a Fantastic Time in Houston (September 12, 2005)
The summer travel season may be over, but there has never been a better time to visit Houston. With world premieres in the Theater District, blockbuster exhibits in the Museum District, festivals representing the city’s great diversity and the return of the PGA Champions Tour, Houston residents and visitors will have plenty of fun this fall trying to see and do it all. La Cumbre Secures New Venue for Houston Convention (September 5, 2005)
La Cumbre, originally scheduled at the George R. Brown Convention Center, will hold its Houston convention Sept. 8-9 at Minute Maid Park. Once La Cumbre organizers learned the convention center is now housing Hurricane Katrina evacuees, they and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau worked quickly to find a new venue to accommodate La Cumbre’s needs.

Houston Opens Arms to Those Affected by Storm (August 29, 2005)
With Houston hotel rooms nearing capacity, hotels and other Houston organizations are doing their part to make the hurricane ordeal easier on those affected by offering special discount rates and free admissions to Houston attractions.

Houston to Host the 2011 Summer National Senior Games - The Senior Olympics (August 26, 2005)
The National Senior Games Association announced that Houston will host the 2011 Summer National Senior Games—The Senior Olympics—one of the largest recurring multi-sports events in the United States and the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors.

Greater Houston CVB Celebrates Record-Breaking Year at 2005 Annual Meeting (August 24, 2005)
The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrated a record-breaking year during its 2005 Annual Meeting and Luncheon at the Galleria Ballroom at the Westin Galleria Hotel. With soaring numbers in hotel room bookings, convention attendance and publicity, the GHCVB not only exceeded last year’s goals, but took the initiative to raise and surpass their own expectations.

Houston Strengthens Its Global Presence (August 11, 2005)
Houston has long been establishing itself as a major international gateway, and meeting planners from around the world are beginning to take notice. Houston will play host to two major international conventions—La Cumbre, Latin America’s largest travel conference, and the U.S. Arab Summit, bringing more than 1,500 world leaders and business executives to Houston.

Greater Houston CVB Bulks Up Sales Staff (August 3, 2005)
The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), in an effort to focus on national accounts, has added four new convention salespeople to its team. These salespeople will also focus on medical and energy markets, as Houston is a world leader in both industries.

August and September Convention Business Brings $16.2 Million to Houston (July 21, 2005)
For the months of August and September, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 27 conventions, trade shows and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB president and CEO Gerard J. “Jordy” Tollett, “more than 27,600 attendees will spend an estimated $16.2 million in Houston during the months of August and September.”

Houston Prepares to Host La Cumbre (June 20, 2005)
Preparations are underway for the upcoming La Cumbre, the world’s largest travel marketplace, to be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in September 2005.

July Convention Business Brings $10.6 Million to Houston (June 15, 2005)
For the month of July, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 17 conventions, trade shows and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB president and CEO Gerard J. “Jordy” Tollett, “more than 18,000 attendees will spend an estimated $10.6 million in Houston during the month of July.”

A Weekend Getaway in Houston for Less (June 1, 2005)
With gas prices approaching all-time highs, many families search out close-to- home travels. Houston is surprisingly affordable with plenty of entertainment options for the entire family.

Greater Houston CVB Provides Savings for Travelers (June 1, 2005)
Visit Houston, and take advantage of year-round savings. The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, in the hopes of alleviating some of these costs, has recently launched two new savings initiatives: a SpaceCity Savings Book and E-coupons.

Houston Hotels From $57 During July 4th Weekend (June 1, 2005)
The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering hotel discounts during the July 4th weekend throughout Houston. Twenty two hotel partners are participating.

Tourism Translates to Dollars in Houston (May 13, 2005)
Houston has launched Houston 365, a tourism promotion in which one lucky family will win 365 days of fun in Houston. Houston 365 gives Houstonians the opportunity to get involved with the campaign by sharing their favorite aspects of Houston on the site.

June Convention Business Brings $15.3 Million To Houston (May 10, 2005)
For the month of June, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 12 conventions, trade shows and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB president and CEO Gerard J. “Jordy” Tollett, more than 52,000 attendees will spend an estimated $15.3 million in Houston during the month of June.

May convention Buisness Brings $19 Million To Houston (April 4, 2005)
For the month of May, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 11 conventions, trade shows and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB president and CEO Gerard J. “Jordy” Tollett, “more than 67,000 attendees will spend an estimated $18.8 million in Houston during the month of May."

April Convention Business Brings $13 Million To Houston (March 3, 2005)
For the month of April, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 21 conventions, trade shows and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB President and CEO Jordy Tollett “more than 58,000 attendees will spend an estimated $13 million during the month of April in the city of Houston.”

Houston Hotels From $65 During Rodeo (February 14, 2005)
March is rodeo month in Houston, and the entire city dons its western chic. Twenty two hotel partners are offering hotel discounts during the rodeo, the Houston Livestock Show™ at Reliant Center and Reliant Arena activites. Visitors enjoy carnival rides and taste the scrumptious food from a variety vendors. Each evening after the rodeo competition, concerts are presented by a variety of superstar entertainers.

$4.3 Million in Convention in Business Comes to Houston in March (February 10, 2005)
For the month of March, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 17 conventions, trade shows and other meetings to the city. According to GHCVB President and CEO Jordy Tollett “close to 13,225 attendees will spend an estimated $4.3 million during March in the city of Houston.”
