For the month of October, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 19 conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings to the city. More than 43,450 attendees will spend an estimated $42.3 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of October’s largest conventions:

The Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA)–Expo 2007
ISA will hold their 2007 Expo at Reliant Park Oct. 2-4. Organized around six core automation and control themes, ISA EXPO provides attendees with a content-rich environment that offers unlimited opportunity for exploration of key technologies, professional growth and interaction with like-minded professionals. The three-day event will cover the breadth and depth of automation and control and provide comprehensive presentations of automation and control solutions, ideas and information. Exchanges provide delegates with a variety of ways to capitalize on the wealth of content specific to each technology, including technical sessions and “open to all” events like briefings on essential standards, topical and relevant forums, standards development meetings and North America’s largest automation and control exhibition. Attendees will also get to discover the latest information on NASA's next generation of spacecraft for human spaceflight from one of NASA's prominent technologist, Donald W. Monell. More than 12,000 delegates are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $11.7 million.

Produce Marketing Association (PMA)–Fresh Summit International Convention and Exposition
PMA’s Fresh Summit International Convention and Exposition will be held Oct.12-15 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Founded in 1949, PMA is the leading trade association serving more than 2,100 companies representing all segments of the global produce and floral supply chains. PMA’s Fresh Summit is for individuals from companies big and small across the entire industry, from produce to floral, retail to foodservice and global to local. This event is the industry’s once-a-year opportunity to identify new products, trends and ideas that will impact the industry as a whole as well as individual companies and careers. The Honorable Colin L. Powell will speak at the opening lunch and General Session and will discuss “Diplomacy: Persuasion, Trust & Values” with delegates. Other notable speakers include John G. Miller, best selling author and Keith Harrell, life coach and author of Attitude is Everything. More than 15,500 delegates are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $15.1 million.

Quilts, Inc-International Quilt Market
The International Quilt Market is coming to the George R. Brown Convention Center Oct. 27-29. This retailers-only market will take place the week before the International Quilt Festival and will feature more than 1,000 booths, selling anything and everything that deals with making quilts, dolls or soft crafts. Considered to be the wholesale trade show event of the year for quilt shops and other quilt businesspeople, Market gives retailers from around the world a chance to preview and buy new fabric lines and patterns from internationally known textile artists and fabric designers, as well as check out the newest and latest gadgets and gizmos for their shops. Everything from dozens of fabric companies, sewing machine and long-arm dealers, notions purveyors, publishers and other textile-related businesses can be purchased at Market. In addition to the trade show, Market will also feature dozens of business seminars and how-to classes, insightful lectures and superb special exhibits. More than 2,000 delegates are anticipated, which will bring approximately $1.9 million to the local economy.
