Contact Information: Chevron Houston Marathon – Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and EP5K The Chevron Houston Marathon will hold its annual 26.2, 13.1, and 3.1 mile run in downtown Houston January 13. The Chevron Houston Marathon, a Running USA founding member, is the nation’s premier winter marathon, annually attracting participants from all 50 U.S. states and more than 30 countries. The marathon has been ranked the fourth most crowd-supported marathon by Ultimate Guide to Marathons and second best marathon overall (out of 54 marathons nationwide) by the running magazine Marathon & Beyond. More than 200,000 spectators line the course and 5,000 volunteers help organize the race, which is Houston’s largest single-day sporting event. In addition to the actual runs, participants and spectators can also attend the Roger Clemens Institute EXPO Friday and Saturday of marathon weekend at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This free, two-day sports and fitness EXPO features exhibitors displaying and selling the latest in health and fitness products and services, as well as numerous health and running related seminars. More than 25,000 participants are expected to attend the Chevron Houston Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k run, which will bring approximately $24.3 million to the local economy. Americas Classic – Swing Dance Championships Americas Classic will hold its 17th Annual Swing Dance Championships at the Wyndham Greenspoint Hotel Jan.10-13. The top Swing dancers in the country attend this prestigious event every year where they perform their exciting swing-inspired routines for judges and dedicated fans. The Classic will also feature excellent instructors, $30,000 in cash and prizes, awards, dance workshops, midnight breakfast buffets and plenty of late-night dancing for all! More than 1,000 delegates are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $974,000. Mary Kay Inc. – Leadership Conference 2008 Mary Kay Inc. will hold its annual Leadership Conference Jan. 23-30 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The conference provides recognition of independent sales force members' mid-year achievements; business-enhancement classes; previews of new products and company programs; and motivational speeches by company executives and top Independent national sales directors. A special event at the conference is Awards Night. This night is when prizes are given to those representatives with the most sales for the year. More than 8,500 Mary Kay Independent National Sales Directors and Independent Sales Directors from the U.S. and Canada are expected to attend the conferences, which will bring approximately $8.5 million to the local economy. ### |
