For the month of February, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 22 conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings to the city. More than 32,189 attendees will spend an estimated $31.3 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of February’s largest conventions:

Meeting Professionals International – Professional Education Conference North America
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) will hold their Professional Education Conference North America (PEC-NA) Feb. 2-5 at the Hilton Americas-Houston and the George R. Brown Convention Center. MeetDifferent is the theme of this year’s event and signifies a radical departure from MPI’s past PEC-NA conferences. This year’s conference takes a fresh approach to building community, sharing ideas and teaching and inspiring attendees. During the event, motivational and educational sessions will be offered for all knowledge levels in key business categories, including meetings management, return on investment, technology and business skills development. New learning programs include the MPI Learning Village, featuring conversation cafes, where attendees drive the content and share their knowledge, along with Technology Way, where attendees can romp in a hands-on technology playground. Inspiring Personal Power Keynotes will be given by business and life issues experts, and the popular Give & Take Roundtables will address hot topics relevant in the meetings industry. Tim Sanders, best-selling author and former Yahoo! chief solutions officer, will headline MPI’s MeetDifferent conference and will present his theory and contents from his soon-to-be-released book How to Save the World at Work. More than 2,500 delegates are expected to attend, which will bring approximately $2.4 million to the local economy.

American Association of Professional Landmen – North American Prospect Expo
American Association of Professional Landmen will hold its 2008 North American Prospect Expo (NAPE) Feb. 6-8 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. NAPE was founded in 1993 to provide a central marketplace for the buying, selling and trading of oil and gas prospects and producing properties via exhibit booths. The 2008 expo will bring state-of-the-art prospects, advanced technology and energy capital formation all together in one location. Energy professionals at all levels of responsibilities including geologists, geophysicists, engineers, landmen, chief financial officers, chief executive officers and other managers will be in attendance, looking to establish strategic business alliances for doing purchases and trades. Investment institutions, including small and large banks as well as mezzanine financiers, and venture capitalists representing potential sources of capital, will occupy booths throughout the NAPE exhibit area. During the expo, attendees will also get to learn about international trends and opportunities in their business and can visit with foreign governments about opportunities in their respective countries. NAPE is one of the largest oil and gas exploration and production events in the world. More than 5,000 delegates are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $4.8 million.

Helicopter Association International – HELI EXPO
Helicopter Association International (HAI) will hold its 2008 HELI EXPO Feb. 24-26 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Since 1948, HAI has brought together the leaders of the international helicopter community including helicopter operators and owners, users, manufacturers and suppliers, service organizations and individuals interested in following the events of the helicopter industry. HELI EXPO is the world’s largest event dedicated to the international helicopter community. The event provides a forum for local, regional and international helicopter operators to meet with manufacturers to exchange ideas, examine new equipment and discover the latest development in rotorcraft technology. An extensive educational program is held in conjunction with the tradeshow that includes forums, symposia, workshops, a job fair and social gatherings for attendees to meet and share information. Delegates are invited to attend HAI’s “Salute to Excellence” awards banquet to honor those whose remarkable talent and professionalism have enriched the industry, and whose courage and skills have saved lives under extreme conditions. More than15, 000 delegates are expected to attend, which will bring approximately $14.6 million to the local economy.
