Twenty-nine conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings, booked by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), will be held in Houston for the month of July. More than 31,430 attendees will spend an estimated $30.6 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of July’s largest conventions:

Microsoft Corp. – Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC)
Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) will be held July 7-10 at the George R. Brown Convention Center and Toyota Center. WPC provides an online and in-person forum for attendees to learn more about business growth opportunities and product innovation from Microsoft executives and partners. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to be among the first to view the latest Microsoft innovations, as well as participate in breakout sessions and hands-on training led by Microsoft and industry experts. Opening day will be dedicated to sessions around partner business models, business segments and a welcoming for new partners. The remaining three days will focus on Microsoft solutions, sales and marketing, and business leadership. The keynote speakers will feature top Microsoft executives, including CEO Steve Ballmer, sharing overall vision, specific solution strategies and question and answer opportunities. Keynote addresses will provide a high-level overview of product launches, product strategy, business direction and customer campaigns. Attendees will also get to connect with partners during partner-to-partner networking opportunities. More than 10,000 attendees are expected, with an economic impact of $9.7 million.

USA National Karate - Do Federation – National Championships
The USA National Karate-Do Federation’s (USA-NKF) National Championships will be held July 18-20 at the Geroge R. Brown Convention Center and the Hyatt Regency Houston. As the largest karate organization in the U.S., the USA-NKF is dedicated to the growth of all types of karate in the nation. The USA NKF National Championships offer an opportunity for premier athletes all over the U.S. to compete against one another, as well as being the sole opportunity to vie for a spot on the junior and senior national teams that represent the United States internationally. The first place winners in the designated Team Trial divisions are added to the team pool for inclusion on the U.S. National Team. Attendees at this year’s event will experience seminars, clinics and a variety of social events including a fundraising gala for the new USA-NKF foundation, Karate Night with the Houston Astros, USA-NKF Family-Fest and the Finals Extravaganza on Sunday evening. More than 5,000 people are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $4.8 million.

American Association of Physicists in Medicine – Annual Meeting
The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) will hold their 50th Annual Meeting July 27-31 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The education program and professional program will offer a significant opportunity to gain practical knowledge on emerging technical and professional issues. A major focus of the scientific program will be increasing integration of advanced imaging concepts in the routine practice of various therapies, especially radiotherapy. Review courses on dagnostic physics and radiation therapy physics will be offered, providing a good review of medical physics for physicists entering the specialty, those preparing for board certification and physicists in need of continuing education credits. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $2.9 million.
