Sixteen conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings, booked by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), will be held in Houston for the month of August. More than 18,949 attendees will spend an estimated $18.4 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of August’s largest conventions:

Texas Nursery & Landscape Association – Texas Nursery/Landscape Expo
Texas Nursery & Landscape Association will hold their Nursery/Landscape Expo Aug. 14-17 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Nursery/Landscape Expo is the largest tradeshow of its kind in the United States, drawing more than 10,000 green industry professionals from throughout Texas and surrounding states. During Expo, attendees - growers, landscape contractors, retail nursery, allied green industry businesses and horticulture educators - will gather under one roof to learn the latest trends in the plants and services industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about industry best practices from industry experts and find out what specials are available this season. More than 1,500 booths will showcase the latest products and services in the industry, including new plant varieties, pottery, fountains, paving systems and the latest plant care products. More than 10,500 attendees are expected, with an economic impact of $10.2 million.

American Trucking Associations – National Truck Driving Championships
The American Trucking Associations’ 71st Annual National Truck Driving Championships will be held Aug. 19-23 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The National Truck Driving Championships program has been conducted by American Trucking Associations, Inc., annually since 1937, and has become one of the largest and most important safety programs in the industry. Starting state-level, the winners in each of the 50 U.S. state’s championship program will compete in Houston at the national level in nine different classes of competition, including straight truck, 3-Axle, 4-Axle, 5-Axle, flatbed, tank truck, twins, sleeper and auto transporter. Competitors will be judged through a written exam, driving test, pre-trip inspection test and professional interview. Awards will be given to contestants based on their accomplishments at the national level and their lifetime commitment to safety. More than 2,500 people are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $2.4 million.

American Association of Professional Landmen – Summer NAPE
American Association of Professional Landmen will hold their Summer NAPE event Aug. 26-28 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Summer NAPE brings state-of-the-art prospects and properties from U.S. and around the world, advanced technology and energy capital formation all together in one location, creating a pure market place to establish strategic alliances for doing business and initiating purchases and trades. This year’s E&P Forum will address the theme “Maximizing North American E&P Opportunities Through Innovation.” Forum sessions include emerging regional opportunities, technologies that are driving economic success and popular prospect promotions. In addition to the E&P Forum, NAPE will host an industry luncheon featuring Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and an icebreaker social sponsored by Chesapeake Energy Corporation and Devon Energy Corporation. More than 1,500 people are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $1.4 million.
