Fourteen conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings, booked by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), will be held in Houston for the month of September. More than 15,000 attendees will spend an estimated $14.6 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of September’s largest conventions:

The Turbomachinery Laboratory – Turbomachinery Symposium & Short Courses
The Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A&M University will hold their 2008 Symposium & Short Courses Sept 8-11 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Symposium continues to be the only meeting organized by users for users that serves to promote professional development, technology transfer, peer networking and information exchange among industry professionals. This year’s program will feature lectures, tutorials, case studies, discussion groups, and short courses, as well as exhibits of the latest services and full-sized equipment available. Sessions will be led by engineers with vast experience in the petrochemical, process, chemical, utility, contractor and consulting fields, along with manufacturers of rotating equipment and fluid-handling equipment from around the world. This event is an ideal source for users concerned with maintenance, performance, troubleshooting, operation and purchase of rotating equipment, as well as for companies meeting their continuing education, professional development and training requirements. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $2.9 million.

National Baptist Convention of America, Inc. – Annual Fall Conference
The 2008 National Baptist Convention of America (NBCA), Inc. will hold their Annual Fall Conference Sept. 8-11 at the Hyatt Regency. During this year’s four-day conference attendees will be exposed to worship, heartfelt gospel music, entertainment, enlightening seminars and fellowship. Eight workshops and seminars facilitated by leading authorities will focus on specific aspects of new church work. Attendees will attend seminars on everything from learning to launch an effective fundraising campaign to planning for retirement. Workshops on technology will show attendees how to leverage technology in areas such as PowerPoint preaching, church office software systems, internet applications, broadcast ministry technology and more. Attendees will also learn ways churches can help rebuild, renew and restore their communities when natural disasters strike. More than 1,800 attendees are expected, with an economic impact of $1.7 million.

The URBAN Network, LLC –Urban Network Entertainment - Marketing Summit
The 18th Annual Urban Network Entertainment – Marketing Summit will be held Sept. 24-27 at the Hilton Americas Hotel and George R. Brown Convention Center. The Summit will be a continuation of the Urban Network Magazine’s 20th Anniversary Celebration. The publication, a long noted industry leader in dispensing music and entertainment information, will bring thousands of consumers, newcomers and professionals from the arts and entertainment industry together under one roof. The Summit will expand upon the notable groundwork that was laid in the previous Urban Network conference in Newport Beach, California earlier this year. The conference will focus on networking, careers in music, broadcasting, theatre, fashion and film. Attendees will participate in compelling panel discussions, a platform for artists and labels to showcase their music, a 20th anniversary gala celebration and entertainment-technology product exhibits. The panels, forums and workshops will be led by highly regarded leaders and will offer valuable information for attendees who are beginning, developing or established in these fields. More than 8,000 registrants, attendees and vendors are expected to attend, with an economic impact of approximately $7.8 million.
