For the first time, Houston offers one comprehensive city guide for meeting planners. The Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) and the Greater Houston Partnership (the Partnership) have collaborated on a book to promote the city’s amenities to local event planners and national and international conventions.

In the past, the GHCVB’s book, Houston Meeting Planners Guide, focused its editorial and advertising on meeting professionals from outside Houston planning citywide conventions. The Partnership’s book, Business Meetings Houston, was geared more toward local event planners looking for unique venues and vendors.

This division of content was confusing both to the planners and to the advertisers, so the two entities decided to collaborate.

The new Houston Meeting Planners Guide, published by Desert Publications, includes the following:

*Facilities: Details on everything from the George R. Brown Convention Center and Reliant Park to the Wortham Theater Center and the Grace Event Lawn at Discovery Green.

*Hotels: A comprehensive spreadsheet includes information on the number of hotel rooms in locations around Houston and total meeting space inside the hotels.

*Unique spaces: Interested in holding your event in an art gallery or at the zoo? This section lists a variety of venues around the city.

*Transportation: Airport information, including details on the number of direct flights to Houston per week, and suggestions on how to get around Houston—taxis, shuttle services, METRORail and more.

*About Houston: This section is geared toward meeting planners outside of Houston and includes information on the city’s arts, dining, nightlife and entertainment.

“Houston is a dynamic, world-class city, leading in industries such as energy, healthcare and biotechnology,” said Jeff Moseley, President and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership. “Take a long look at what Houston and our GHCVB can bring to your next event,” he added. “There’s a reason why Houston has earned Kiplinger’s title of ‘the Best City to Live, Work and Play’”.

GHCVB president and CEO Greg Ortale agrees. “We’ve collaborated with the Partnership for quite some time on conventions and major events in our city, and I’m pleased to team up with them on this publication. One of our major goals for next year is to truly engage our corporate community to bring their own conventions to Houston, so this fits perfectly into that plan.”
