November Convention Business Brings $41.6 Million to Houston

Seventeen trade shows, events and other meetings, booked by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), will be held in Houston for the month of November. More than 42,710 attendees will spend an estimated $41.6 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of November’s largest conventions:

EH Publishing, Inc. – Worship Facilities Conference & Expo (WFX 2008)
The Worship Facilities Conference & Expo (WFX) will be held Nov. 5-7 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Now in its fourth year, WFX Houston will bring together thousands of church and industry leaders and hundreds of exhibitors to answer critical issues facing churches of all sizes. This annual event lets attendees learn together through a unique conference program that includes a four track educational series for facilities and tech teams, a day-long executive seminar for pastors, the largest expo floor for the church market filled with thousands of products and services and a special events program. The four-track program educational sessions include: Facilities Planning: Design & Renovation Track, A/V & Lighting Track, Facilities Operations & Energy Management Track and Digital Church Strategies Track. WFX will bring more than 400 exhibitors together showcasing the latest products, services and solutions for church growth. During Expo, attendees will get to meet face-to-face with hundreds of companies revolutionizing the design, building and outfitting of worship facilities while discovering the future of audio, video and lighting technologies and equipment for their church. Lakewood Church Senior Pastor and Keynote Speaker Joel Osteen will lead a group of delegates in the Lakewood Experience, a behind-the-scenes facility tour dinner and Q&A with Osteen and the leadership team at Lakewood. More than 7,000 delegates are anticipated, which will bring an estimated $6.8 million to the local economy.

The Latin Recording Academy® – 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards
The 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards will be broadcast live from the Toyota Center in Houston on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008. This important event– which recognizes and celebrates excellence in Latin music– will feature performances from the hottest and most prestigious names in the genre. This marks the first time Houston will host the premier international showcase of Latin music. The Latin GRAMMY® Awards ceremony previously has been held in Miami, Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas. More than 16,000 attendees are expected to attend. The total estimated impact from this event is $30 million. To kick off the big event, Houston es Musica– the Official Host Committee of the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards– has planned a series of free concerts and festivals in October and November. Houston is the first host city to program local events prior to the Latin GRAMMY® Awards, allowing all Houstonians and fans of Latin music to get on the road to the Latin GRAMMY®s and participate in this city-wide celebration. LATIN GRAMMY® WEEK:
Thousands of people, including members of the Latin Recording Academy®, noted artists from the world of music, international media and music fans from around the world, are expected to attend the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards in Houston. Below is a summary of events taking place during Latin GRAMMY® week and details on ticketed events.
• Person of the Year Award – Wednesday, Nov. 12
GRAMMY®- and Latin GRAMMY® -winning international superstar Gloria Estefan will be honored as the 2008 Latin Recording Academy® Person of the Year at a star-studded concert and tribute dinner at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

•Latin GRAMMY® Awards Night – Thursday, Nov. 13
The 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards will be held at Toyota Center and will air live on the international Univision Television Network on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. Central.

The Latin Recording Academy® and the Univision Television Network are once again inviting Latin music fans to experience the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards in person by making a limited number of tickets available to the public for the annual telecast.
