March Convention Business Brings $27.4 Million to Houston

For the month of April, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB) welcomes 22 conventions, trade shows, Eighteen conventions, trade shows, events and other meetings, booked by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GHCVB), will be held in Houston for the month of March. More than 28,200 attendees will spend an estimated $27.4 million in Houston during this month. The following are some of March’s largest conventions:

Pri-Med – Pri-Med Southwest
Pri-Med will hold their 2009 Southwest conference March 18-21 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Attendees with have the option of participating in two programs: Current Clinical Issues in Primary Care or Practice Solutions. The Clinical Issues three-day program is developed and presented by nationally-recognized faculty from Harvard Medical School. Grouped into concurrent morning and afternoon sessions, the program offers more than 50 clinical lectures addressing challenges faced by primary care practitioners today. Attendees attending the Practice Solutions program will take part in two days of cutting edge education developed by Physicians Practice, America's Leading Practice Management Journal, focusing on technology, practice management, patient care and more. The program will address the needs of healthcare professionals to receive information, resources and education in the areas of technology and practice-based approaches and solutions. In addition to these educational programs, attendees will have access to the Pri-Med Exhibit Hall, where more than 175 products and services will be offered, focusing on new diagnostic and therapeutic products, medical information and technologies and practice management. More than 3,000 delegates are expected to attend, with an estimated economic impact of $2.9 million.

American Contract Bridge League – Spring North American Bridge Championships
The Spring North American Bridge Championships (NABC) will all take place March 12-22 at the Hilton-Americas Hotel. NABC is held three times a year in the spring, summer and fall, and is where players of all levels meet to compete in a series of tournaments. In addition to the competition, the NABC offers entertainment, seminars, guest lectures and other special events. One of the most exceptional opportunities at NABC is the chance to watch the skilled pros up-close as they bid and play the deals. Members also have the opportunity to take advantage of numerous educational and social activities. The Club Director’s Course prepares candidates for directing club and bridge cruise games, while the Teacher Accreditation Program (TAP) lets attendees learn the business side of teaching bridge. More than 5,000 attendees are expected, with an estimated economic impact of $4.8 million.
