Contact Information: Texas Library Association – Annual Conference Texas Library Association (TLA) will hold their Annual Conference April 1-3 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The theme for this year’s conference speaks to the collective focus on democratic rights and the role of libraries in supporting opportunity for everyone. TLA 2009 looks at the long struggles involved with achieving equality in opportunities while looking ahead to the ongoing and fundamental role libraries must have in supporting progress and leading the way toward innovation and learning. The general session speakers, Gloria Steinem, women's rights author and journalist; and Paula Poundstone, Emmy Award-winning comedian; are well-known figures who have supported public causes: one, women's rights; the other, libraries and literacy. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from 14 pre-conference programs; to learn new ideas while orchestrating conversations with other librarians, and to hear about the latest and best products and services from our many vendors. More than 5,000 attendees are expected, with an estimated economic impact of $4.8 million. World Wrestling Entertainment – The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania™ World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will hold their 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania™ April 5 at Reliant Stadium. In addition to this milestone event, Houston will host an entire week of events and activities for the WWE Universe. WrestleMania™ Week takes place April 1-6, and will feature WWE Superstars RAW, SmackDown, and ECW, joined by sports celebrities, entertainers, and tens of thousands of fans from around-the-world. More than 80,000 fans from 24 countries, including all 50 states and 7 Canadian provinces, are expected to attend, which will bring approximately $77.9 million to the local economy. **************************************************************************************************** Coming in May… Offshore Technology Conference – May 4-7 The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world's largest offshore event, will he held May 4-7 at Reliant Park. Founded in 1969, OTC is the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection. More than 75,000 energy professionals from 110 countries will meet in Houston to learn about the latest technology for finding and producing offshore oil and natural gas resources.
