Contact Information: Offshore Technology Conference – Annual Convention & Exposition Energy professionals from more than 120 countries met at the world’s largest offshore resources industry event, held May 4-7, 2009 at Reliant Park in Houston. More than 67,721 delegates attended, which brought an estimated $65.9 million to the local economy. OTC 2009 Highlights: -Attendance Numbers: Attendance reached 67,721despite a global economic recession and initial concerns about swine flu. Attendance was a little less than in 2008, but exceeded expectations considering economic conditions. -OTC Expo: The 2009 exhibition was the second largest in OTC’s 40-year history, with more than 557,000 square feet of exhibition area filled to capacity by 2,500 companies from 38 countries. -Sessions: Covering four full days, the 2009 technical program offered a full day of sessions on the Arctic, as well as special panel sessions on operating in a volatile market. -New Technology: OTC's Spotlight on New Technology program highlighted 14 innovative technologies that are already making the industry more effective. Nano Science and Technology Institute – Nanotech Conference & Expo Nanotech 2009 was held May 3-7, 2009 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Nanotech is the largest conference in the U.S. for nanotech business, research and commercialization. The 12th Annual Nanotech Conference & Expo continued its tradition of bringing together leaders from the global scientific and business communities. More than 4,000 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $3.89 million. Nanotech 2009 Highlights: -Symposia: Conference tracks included: medical & biotech, electronics, energy, advanced materials, fabrication & tools, and business and strategy. -Nanotech Expo Hall: The largest nanotech expo in North America. The Expo included hundreds of nanotech companies, research institutions and government agencies from around the world. -Nanotech Ventures: More than 60 ventures ranging from “pre-seed” up to “B-Round” presented in Houston. -Nano Industrial Impact Workshops: More than a dozen one-day workshops were conducted by leading experts in their respective fields. Pri-Med – Pri-Med Southwest Pri-Med held their 2009 Southwest conference March 18-21, 2009 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. More than 3,000 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $2.9 million. Pri-Med 2009 Highlights: -Programming: Attendees had the option of participating in two programs: Current Clinical Issues in Primary Care or Practice Solutions. -Clinical Issues Program: Developed and presented by nationally-recognized faculty from Harvard Medical School. Offered more than 50 clinical lectures addressing challenges faced by primary care practitioners today. -Practice Solutions Program: Developed by Physicians Practice, America's Leading Practice Management Journal. Addressed the needs of healthcare professionals to receive information, resources and education in the areas of technology and practice-based approaches and solutions. -Pri-Med Exhibit Hall: Attendees had access an exhibit hall that included more than 175 new diagnostic and therapeutic products, medical information and technologies, and practice management. The Turbomachinery Laboratory – International Pump Users Symposium & Short Courses The International Pump Users Symposium & Short Courses was held Feb. 23-26, 2009 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Symposium takes place biannually to promote professional development, technology transfer, peer networking and information exchange among industry professionals. More than 4,400 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $4.2 million. Fall 2009 Symposium Highlights: -Leaders: The event was led by engineers with vast experience in the petrochemical, process, chemical, utility, contractor and consulting fields, along with manufacturers of rotating equipment and fluid-handling equipment from around the world. -Symposium: Featured lectures, tutorials, case studies, discussion groups and short courses on centrifugal compressors, advanced reciprocating compressor diagnostics, combined cycle and cogeneration power, babbitt bearings and variable speed drive fundamentals. -Exhibit Hall: Featured products from many key companies in the industry, including exhibits of the latest services and full-sized equipment available. American Association of Professional Landmen – North American Prospect Expo (NAPE) The 2009 NAPE Expo took place Feb. 5-6, 2009 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. NAPE Expo was created in 1993 to provide a marketplace for the buying, selling and trading of oil and gas prospects and producing properties via exhibit booths. An estimated 14,902 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $14.5 million. NAPE 2009 Highlights: -Turnout: NAPE Expo remained strong with more than 14,000 registrants and growth in most every segment. -Expo: The two-day Expo featured a record number of 1,750 booths. -E&P Forum: NAPE’s E&P Forum brought together a panel of industry executives that addressed opportunities and strategies that upstream international oil and gas companies are pursuing during the tumultuous economic times. Quilts, Inc. – International Quilt Festival & Market Quilts, Inc.’s annual International Quilt Festival & Market was held Oct. 25 - Nov. 2, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Referred to as “The World’s Fair of Quilts,” the Quilt Festival is the largest annual quilt show, sale and quilt making academy in the world. More than 62,063 delegates attended, which brought an estimated $60.4 million to the local economy. Quilt Festival 2008 Highlights: -Festival Roundup: The 2008 Festival featured more than 2,200 quilts and other fabric-arts pieces, more than 1,000 booths selling antique and contemporary quilts, supplies, books, notions, antiques, and crafts, and more than 425 classes, lectures and events. The Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA) – ISA Annual Expo ISA EXPO 2008, held October 14-16, 2008 at Reliant Center, attracted more than 10,406 delegates, which brought an estimated $10.1 million to the local economy. ISA Expo 2008 Highlights: -Programming: The 70 conference program sessions, 17 training courses, dozens of special events and more than 100 presentations on the exhibit floor were focused around six technology exchanges, with dozens of industry experts on hand to lead discussions, present papers and answer questions about the hottest topics in each area. -Technology Exchanges: ISA EXPO technology exchanges covered security, process automation, safety, environmental and quality control, enterprise integration, and wireless networking. Tri-Societies and Geological Society of America – Joint Annual Meeting Thousands of international scientists, professionals, educators and students gathered at the George R. Brown Convention Center October 5-9, 2008 to discuss the latest research and trends in energy, water resources, climate change, agriculture, science education and earth sciences at Tri-Societies and Geological Society of America’s Annual Meeting. More than 9,944 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $9.6 million. Annual Meeting 2008 Highlights: -New Platform: This first-ever Joint Annual Meeting was a collaboration that showcased the sciences of the sponsoring organizations, The Geological Society of America, American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, Soil Science Society of America, and Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies. -Programming: The scientific program of research presentations, lectureships, and plenary sessions were built around ten challenging issues set forth by the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE) agenda. -Topics of Discussion: Topics included environmental challenges, biofuels production, climate change, soil and water contaminants, wetland management and digital mapping. Texas Nursery & Landscape Association – Texas Nursery/Landscape Expo Texas Nursery & Landscape Association held their Nursery/Landscape Expo Aug. 14-17, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Nursery/Landscape Expo is the largest tradeshow of its kind in the U.S., drawing thousands of green industry professionals from throughout Texas and the surrounding states. More than 10,500 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $10.2 million. Expo 2008 Highlights: -Delegates: Attendees included growers, landscape contractors, retail nursery, allied green industry businesses and horticulture educators. -Expo: More than 1,500 booths showcased the latest products and services in the industry, including new plant varieties, pottery, fountains, paving systems and the latest plant care products. Microsoft Corp. – Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) was held July 7-10, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center and Toyota Center. WPC provides an online and in-person forum for attendees to learn more about business growth opportunities and product innovation from Microsoft executives and partners. More than 12,349 delegates attended, with an estimated economic impact of $12 million. WPC 2008 Highlights: -Product Preview: Attendees had the unique opportunity to be among the first to view the latest Microsoft innovations. -Keynote Speaker: The keynote speakers featured top Microsoft executives, including CEO Steve Ballmer, sharing overall vision, specific solution strategies and question and answer opportunities. ### |
