What to do in Houston between Midnight and 6 a.m.

GREAT AFTER-HOURS RESTAURANTS

Downtown

  • Frank's Pizza: Located in downtown’s historic district and within walking distance from several boutique hotels, Frank’s is popular with the after-hours crowd.  The New York-style pizza is always a hit after a night out.

Montrose

  • Katz’s Deli & Bar: This New York-style deli never "kloses."
  • Biba’s One’s a Meal Greek Village: Biba’s is popular for a Greek meal or breakfast around-the-clock.
  • Mezza-Notte at La Strada: This Montrose-area Italian restaurant is offering a special brunch, Mezza-Notte, on Friday and Saturday nights 10 p.m.-3 a.m.  This is a larger menu than La Strada’s traditional Sunday brunch—they’ve added dishes like a meatloaf sandwich, granola pancakes, chicken scallapini and more.  Mezza-Notte also features DJs—down tempo, light house, jazzy.  The famous bellinis do stop at 2 a.m. (per Texas law), but the food goes on until 3.

Midtown

  • Mai’s: A Vietnamese institution since 1978, Mai’s is a favorite of local chefs and is open until 4 a.m. every weekend.
  • Late Nite Pie: THE place in Houston for after-hours pizza.  Luckily, Midtown has a large concentration of bars and clubs…and lots of hungry people after 2 a.m.

The Heights

  • Max’s Wine Dive: Just opened in 2007, Max’s Wine Dive has become famous for its great wine selection and hearty comfort food (think “haute” dog) until its 2 a.m. closing time.
  • Spanish Flowers: Great Tex-Mex, 24 hours.

NIGHTLIFE

Houston bars are open until 2 a.m.  Click here to search by neighborhood.

NOT HUNGRY OR THIRSTY?

Landmark River Oaks Theatre: This beloved theater in the art-deco River Oaks Shopping Center shows midnight movies every Friday and Saturday night, ranging from the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live cast to classic films like Psycho and The Goonies.  For people who are a little thirsty or would like a nightcap, there is a café/bar on the second floor.

EARLY RISERS

Memorial Park: It is rare to drive by Memorial Park at any time of day or any day of the year and not see people jogging the 3-mile trail around the park.  Early morning (between 4:30 and 6 a.m.) is always a popular time for runners.

Fishing: Located 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, Houston is a destination for avid fishermen. An estimated 3 million Texas fisherman spend more than 9 million days fishing each year on the 1.5 million acres of lakes and 80,000 miles of rivers, streams and bayous of Texas.  They fish for sport and for food, avidly seeking such long-time favorites as large-mouth bass, crappie, sunfish, white bass and various species of catfish. Sport fishing offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and in the inshore waters of the Texas coast has long been a favorite recreational pursuit of both Texans and visitors.  Catches include tarpon, kingfish, red snapper, wahoo, ling, bonito and yellow-finned tuna.  Eighty miles offshore from Galveston is some of the country's best bill fishing, with catches of blue and white marlin and sailfish.
