Tex-Mex or BBQ?
Tex-Mex (Ninfas on Navigation being the best in my mind!)
Inner Looper or Outer Looper?
Inner Looper for sure!
Favorite Annual Event?
The Houston Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Gala
Houston in one word is:
fabulous! In my favorite three words, "Hot and Cheap!"
What's a Houston must-see?
We're spoilt for choice! But I'll pick the San Jacinto Monument at the battleground where Texas gained its independence in 1836. The tower is 15 feet taller than the Washington Monument and gives a breath-taking view of Houston in its sprawling glory. Being on that land and contemplating life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness connects me with the Universe… funny that, coming from a British transplant!
A must-have?
A friendly, positive attitude and willingness to answer the question, "where are y'all from???"
What's the one (activity, place or thing) that you haven't experienced, but would like to?
May I pick three? I really want to experience the Aurora Picture Show – it has great reviews and sounds like a film artist's dream. Next, The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum sounds incredibly intriguing and a must-have cultural experience. Finally, a girlfriend of mine and I for years have been meaning to have a Saturday morning treasure hunt in Harwin Drive Shopping District. I can't believe I've never been! Here you can pick up the best fake sparkles, glitter affects and gems for next to nothing. Great accessories for turning that tired black tie dinner dress into a spectacular never-seen-before look!
What would you say is Houston's best hidden gem? Why?
Its acceptance of diversity. Houston has a rich, vibrant and embracing mixture of citizens. Contrary to what an onlooker might think, our city's community as a whole is very warm and welcoming to all. Houstonians are the friendliest and happiest people I've ever met! I wasn't born in Houston, but my soul belongs here and I arrived as quickly as I could!
When I'm not managing the social responsibility of my company I'm wining, dining, fundraising, volunteering and engaged in politics.
Houstonian that you admire most?
Annise Parker. To grow up as a shy Houstonian to become the dynamic leader of our city, Annise is an exemplification of the passion this city brings out in its citizens.
Favorite place to grab a bite?
So difficult to choose as there are many favs! A frequent best bite however is Beaver's – especially for ribs followed by a wickedly delicious dessert of "Beaver Balls"!
Best brunch in town?
Saturday mornings at Baby Barnaby's after a jog around Memorial Park is the best!
Favorite Happy Hour?
Wednesday nights at Guava Lamp – especially for casual birthday fun on the karaoke mic!
