What makes Houston special? The people! Houstonians are friendly and always put a big premium on having fun! That’s why there are so many amazing restaurants, killer stores, fun clubs and sports galore. Beyond all that you’ll find a city rich in history and very much committed to the future.
Every time I come back to Houston, I make it a point to chow down at Goode Co. BBQ. I get the fully loaded baked potato, the chopped beef with extra sauce and finish it all off with the best pecan pie on the planet. Naturally, afterwards I have to go for a big run at Memorial Park to work it all off!
Houston is a really charming and beautiful city. Houston is very dynamic and a total blast. There is so much to do—the museums are great. Ditto with the live music scene, the restaurants, sports and shopping. Houston has it all!
During the '80s, I covered all of the Houston sports…from the Oilers and high-flying Gamblers (remember them?)… to the Rockets and Astros playoff runs and, of course U of H and Phi Slamma Jamma! So whenever I get back to Houston, I make sure to check out a sporting event. Houston fans are a lot of fun and always make the games a big party and THE place to be!
One of Houston’s best kept secrets is the Continental Club, with great live music almost every night of the week. The vibe reflects the personality of its gregarious music-savvy owner Bob Schultz, who is all about having a great time. It’s a fun, down and dirty place to kick up your heels, while supporting some great local talent.
I have lived many places and traveled all over the country, but for me, Houston is special. It’s the amazing feeling I get when my plane touches down—I’m home!
