I didn't really have much time to think about what Houston would be like before I moved here. I found out the team was moving from San Jose on Dec. 15 and flew to Houston from my vacation in Hawaii on the 29th. I had only two days to find a place to live, as I had to be in camp with the National team until March. Based on that, I didn't exactly know what to expect.
The people of Houston surprised me the most. Everyone we met was welcoming and had such a friendly attitude. On the flip side, it was difficult to adjust to running around the field for 90 minutes in the humidity!
I tell friends who have never been to Houston that Houston is a fun city with great food and people. You can do everything, from going to concerts to surfing in Galveston. There is always something to do. The city is so much fun. I’ve had friends who can't wait to come back after visiting.
I love to try new places to eat all the time, but there are a few that I go back to. Mockingbird Bistro, Azuma, Escalante’s, Nit Noi Thai restaurant, and Kona Grill are establishments that I visit frequently. I am not much of a shopper, but when I do go shopping my two favorite stores are Lucho in Uptown Park and Puma over in The Galleria.
My Houston is…hanging out with friends at a coffee shop or out at The Roof or Bond. My Houston is also going to concerts, Astros games, Rockets games.
Houston is a big city with a small town mentality. That is what I love about it the most.
