Day 1

Explore the Museum District of Houston and take your pick to visit anyone of the 16 museums located in this beautiful area of Houston that is near the Texas Medical Center, Rice University and the Houston Zoo.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is always a popular choice.  This world-class facility is the fourth most visited museum in the US.  Visitors can enjoy the museums’ permanent exhibits including the Cockrell Butterfly Center, IMAX theater, and the Burke Baker Planetarium.

If time permits, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston which opened in 1924 as the first art museum in Texas, houses a wonderful collection of more than 51,000 artworks, one of the largest and most outstanding collections in the Southwest.

A variety of restaurants are located in and around the Museum District.  Our suggestion; Hugo’s located in the heart of Houston’s Montrose area.  This restaurant brings the exciting and earthy flavors of Mexico across the border.  “Authentic Mexican cooking is a world-class cuisine that has remained virtually unchanged by the outside world,” says Executive Chef Hugo Ortega of his native cuisine. “The food is full of light, fresh tastes; deep, complex flavors; and earthy notes, all combined to create a cuisine like no other.”

Visit the Galleria, Houston’s upscale shopping mall, the fourth largest in the country that features close to 400 stores including designer boutiques like Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Chanel, Jimmy Choo and many others.  You can enjoy skating on the ice rink made famous by Olympian Tara Lipinski and a great variety of restaurants and coffee shops located throughout the mall.

Day 2

Space Center Houston
Being the official Visitor Center of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the Starship Gallery Journey begins in Destiny Theater with the 12 minute feature of “On Human Destiny” which traces the history of the manned space program.  Observe three capsules that were actually flown in space, mock-ups that were used for astronaut training and exploration and the new pioneers’ area.  The last activity, NASA tram tours, consists of a behind the scenes guided tour to Johnson Space Center including the Historical Mission Control Center and the International Space Station Shuttle Mock-up facility where astronauts receive their training.

Stop-over at Kemah Boardwalk, where the warm gulf breezes and sparkling coastal waters welcome more visitors each day. Kemah got its name from an Indian word meaning “wind in the face”.  It is a beautiful seaside community located on Galveston Bay.  Kemah Boardwalk offers variety of shops and dining experiences along the waterfront.  Play Boardwalk games, pet a Stingray, ride a train plus other amusement rides or just sit and     watch the parade of boats along the Kemah-Seabrook Channel.   A unique area to spend the day.  www.kemahboardwalk.com

San Jacinto Monument and Museum
The giant Lone Star monument, marks the spot where Texas won its independence in 1836.  The monument houses the San Jacinto Museum of History, a multi-image presentation and an elevator to the observation deck for an unsurpassed view of the battleground site.   Near the San Jacinto Monument is the Battleship “Texas” once the most powerful weapon in the World.  The battleship, which was commissioned in 1914, participated in both World War I and II.  It was presented to the people of Texas as the first memorial ship in 1948.
