Fiber art encompasses a variety of disciplines such as weaving, dyeing, crochet, knitting, tapestry, spinning, felting, quilting and more. In addition to a major exhibition of local fiber artist Cindy Hickok, the Craft Center will host Warp Is Not Enough in its Artist Hallway space. Organized by the Contemporary Handweavers of Houston, in conjunction with the 2007 Contemporary Handweavers of Texas Biennial Conference, the show comprises the work of four internationally recognized fiber artists: Bonnie Inouye, James Koehler, Ann Matlock and Anita Luvera Mayer. The range of work shown includes large-scale tapestries that reflect the rhythmic, repetitive processes inherent in the natural world, intricate tapestries of subtly shaded natural forms executed with handspun and dyed silk, contemporary clothing inspired by ethnic originals with embellishments done by hand, and handwovens characterized by flowing lines, intriguing textures and bold images.
