Innovative New Screen-to-Stage Film Series

The Great White Way and the Silver Screen have shared material for decades. This season, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is partnering with Angelika Film Center to create a celebratory film series featuring four movie-turned-musical productions scheduled to grace TUTS' stage. Grease, Meet Me In St. Louis, The Sound Of Music, and South Pacific are all iconic parts movie history and current stars on the TUTS season line-up! The Wednesday evening before the show opens at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts, Angelika Film Center will host a special screening of the movie version. What better way to celebrate one form of art than with another?

The film series line-up includes:
Grease Sing-A-long: Wednesday, September 2, 2009
Meet Me In St. Louis: Wednesday, September 22, 2009
The Sound Of Music Sing-A-Long: Wednesday, December 2, 2009
South Pacific: Wednesday March 3, 2010

Each show will bring its own special flavor to the screen and stage. The nostalgia and '50s fun of Grease will be celebrated with a sing-a-long and costumes from the era or your favorite characters are certainly encouraged. The original MGM screen production of Meet Me In St. Louis will be a hit with classic movie-aficionados. The Sound Of Music sing-a-long will offer something special in the shape of interactive prop-bags a'la The Rocky Horror Picture Show for audience participation. Viewers will have confetti party-poppers for the climactic first kiss between Maria and Captain Von Trapp among other novel and interactive items. Take advantage of the rare opportunity to see South Pacific on the silver screen with its lush and tropical landscapes as it recounts the classic tale of unanticipated love in a foreign land during WWII.

Regular ticket prices apply for Grease Sing-A-Long, Meet Me In St. Louis, and South Pacific. Currently, Angelika Film Center ticket prices are Adult $9.50, Student $7.25, Child $6.75 and Senior $7.00. Pricing for The Sound Of Music Sing-A-Long will be announced at a later date.
