Downtown denizens and the business set rejoice with the addition of the highly-anticipated Byrd’s Market & Cafe. Opening in the fall 2009, Byrd’s will offer locals an organically-grown market selection, a chef-driven dining experience, event space, catering and a supply of basic household necessities—much to the delight of area residents.

Owner Jerrell “Rusty” Powers has teamed up with executive chef Marlies Wasterval—a native Houstonian and Johnson & Wales grad—to oversee the menu at Byrd’s. Together, they promise a variety of freshly-baked breads, artisan pastries, an extensive wine selection, even house-made condiments prepared using local ingredients. The casual and well-priced spot will be available for catering and private events, too.

Byrd’s will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Look for it to open in mid-November, on the northwest corner of Main and Prairie.
