Midtown Restaurants

➡️ The Guide: A Perfect Day of Eating in Midtown

Some of Houston’s top restaurants can be found in Midtown. With options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and globally-inspired cuisine, there’s a restaurant for everyone to enjoy. Read on for our dining recommendations in this neighborhood, including late night dining spots!

Start your morning with a cup of coffee and a pastry from a local coffee shop in Midtown like Minuti Coffee. They have a great selection of espresso and freshly-brewed Italian blend. Just a few steps away, you can choose a morning treat from CoCo Crêpes, Waffles & Coffee to make your day sweeter. For a hearty breakfast or brunch, we recommend The Breakfast Klub for their signature chicken and waffles and classic breakfast dishes. Another must-try is Taste Bar + Kitchen for shrimp and grits and their mini red velvet waffles with hot chicken. Both restaurants offer southern comfort food and are so popular that you’ll find a line out the door on most weekends!

Houston’s diverse community lends itself to a culturally diverse food scene. In Midtown, there are plenty of globally-inspired restaurants for locals and visitors alike. Diners can enjoy a meal at Oporto Fooding House & Wine, a modern Portuguese restaurant with an elegant dining room and charming outdoor patio to taste seafood dishes like Paelha Portuguesa with saffron rice, shrimp, clams, mussels, fish, sausages, hanger steak, charred peppers and your choice of wine or craft cocktail. Izakaya is a modern Japanese restaurant that serves ramen, poke, beef skewers and delicious cuisine that locals come back for more. Taste traditional Vietnamese cuisine at Mai’s Restaurant, a Houston favorite for the past 40 years. You can enjoy a hot bowl of pho, stir-fry and more for lunch, dinner or even late night after a night out in Midtown. For sushi, we recommend Kanau Sushi for a variety of dishes and Kura Revolving Sushi Bar for a fun experience selecting different sushi plates delivered to your table on a conveyor belt.

Enjoy date night at one of Houston’s top restaurants, Brennan’s of Houston. For over 50 years, they have been serving fine dining creole cuisine with South Texas flair. Be sure to order the Chili-Fried Gulf Oysters, Shrimp Remoulade and Gulf Fish Pontchartrain paired with your choice of wine. Another date night option is Gloria’s Latin Cuisine, a Salvadorian restaurant with a variety of latin-inspired dishes like Pupusas, Lechon Asado and Plato SalvaTex. After dinner, dance the night away with live local Latin bands and DJs. We also recommend trying Weights and Measures, a bakery and restaurant concept serving savory dishes like gourmet pizza, pasta and pan seared salmon.

For a great nightlife, head to Midtown where you’ll find disco-themed bars to laidback outdoor patios. Start at The Dogwood to get a great view of downtown while enjoying a handcrafted cocktail. Then, walk over to Wonder Bar and snap photos with their whimsical art installations, neon signs and order their disco ball cocktails. Next door is Electric FeelGood, home of neon signs, colorful cocktails and the popular ‘Electric Slide’ where visitors can slide down and feel like a kid again. Other must-visit bars on the same block are the retro Unicorn Disco and the multi-story 77 Degrees club with tropical drinks, cabanas and great music.

For a more laid back night, we recommend going to Little Woodrow’s, a dog-friendly neighborhood bar with great food trucks, cold beer and TVs to watch an Astros baseball or Texans football game. Christian's Tailgate Bar & Grill is another sports bar with great food and they have karaoke  too! Other noteworthy bars with great craft cocktails, large unique outdoor spaces with swings and excellent music are Axelrad, Holman Draft Hall and Social Beer Garden
