Houston continues to make strides in becoming more bike-friendly, most recently with the first-phase opening of the Lamar Street bike lane. Marked by neon-green paint, the dedicated path stretches east west from one side of Downtown to the other, starting at Discovery Green and ending at Sam Houston Park.
Dubbed the “Downtown Park Connector,” it’s the city’s first protected bike lane and features a two-way bike path, separated from traffic with a raised, black and white divider.
The opening of the path coincides with the improvements made to Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Park and makes sense, given that the city has more than a dozen B-Cycle stations in the Central Business District.
The City of Houston will continue to work with BikeHouston on developing a comprehensive bike plan for the city.
