Houston marathon runner Larry DeSpain has raised over $75,000 for charity over the past three years. As the top individual fundraiser in the Run for a Reason program, Larry runs every Chevron Houston Marathon on behalf of a meaningful cause. Each year, approximately 2100 charity runners represent over 60 charities raising more than $24 million since 1995.

“I am not a destination runner and have only run the Houston Marathon.  But the organization and support of the Run for A Reason program exceeds any of the other charity runs that I participate it,” DeSpain says.

Run for a Reason helps charities receive financial support during the RFAR Kickoff Party, the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and the ABB 5K. Runners and non-runners collect donations from family, friends, and coworkers on behalf of a charity of their choice. Organizations can submit applications over the summer to become official RFAR charities during the marathon season.

“My favorite part of Run for a Reason is being able to raise awareness of pediatric cancer by representing the Snowdrop Foundation,” DeSpain says, “I believe that many of the experiences that long distance runners endure are similar to those of pediatric cancer patients.”

Become a hero today and register to run with the Run for a Reason program (deadline to enter is December 2). And remember to cheer on Larry and all of the other Chevron Houston Marathon runners downtown on January 15, 2017.
