Waffles have inspired more than just recipes. Bill Bowerman, Nike Co-Founder, saw his wife using their waffle iron one morning and was intrigued by the honeycomb shape. He then used an actual waffle iron to make a sneaker sole. The outcome? Nike’s first pair of sneakers named the Waffle Trainer.

Let’s celebrate this crispy batter baked delight on National Waffle Day – Friday, August 24th. Who knows, maybe you’ll get inspired!

Seabrook Waffle Company

Discover how this hidden gem gets its shine. Seabrook Waffle Company, located in historic Old Seabrook at the bottom of the Kemah Bridge, serves Liege style waffles. They use dough instead of classic waffle batter, and incorporate pearl sugar into the dough that creates a sweet crunch. For a savory option, we recommend Zac’s Mac, with white cheddar mac & cheese, crumbled bacon, and crushed red pepper flakes. For patrons with a sweet tooth, we recommend the NOLA with bananas, vanilla ice cream, and cinnamon maple sprinkles.

Ritual

Experience a waffle dish that represents Texas in all the right ways. Ritual, located in The Heights, graced Houstonian’s with their take on Chicken and Waffles. The cornbread waffle featuring a semi-spicy chicken and topped with pickles is the perfect way to switch it up, southern style.

When a restaurant known for their real deal Neapolitan pizza announced a brunch menu, we instantly became intrigued. Cane Rosso, located in Montrose and The Heights, shocked us all with their brunch menu. The star was clear from the very beginning… the Cap’n Crunch Waffles. This waffle is made with condensed milk syrup and fruity pebbles cereal and yes, it has made all of our childhood breakfast dreams come true.
