  • overview

A thrilling car chase tearing up the streets of New York City. An assassin jui-jitsuing his way to vengeance for a murdered dog. A swordswoman leaping through the air before delivering her final blow. In film, we love our action scenes. Kick-butt action sequences belong in literature, too. Unfortunately, the balletic athleticism on display in filmed action scenes can be difficult to capture on the page, resulting in sequences that are boring, confusing, or both at once. How can writers create action scenes that are as exciting to read as they are to watch? Which literary techniques can recreate the excitement and drama of our favorite fictional fights? Join us for a workshop exploring the ins and outs--and ups, downs, backflips, and perfect punches--of writing action scenes that kick a**.
