Evelyn Rubenstein JCC presents Bring in the Tap Bring in the Swing Sunday, July 7 beginning at 3:00 pm in the Kaplan Theatre featuring the J Adult Intermediate Tap Dancers, The Golden Girls Plus One Tappers, with guest swing dance/tap dance artists Robin Carlson & Jerry Foote Directors of Dance Force Productions plus additional guests performers.“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our tap students and other community tap and swing dancers”, stated Maxine Silberstein Program Coordinator for Adult Dance and Visual Arts. The Golden Girl Tappers began tap dancing together in 1999 under the direction of Marjorie Swiss. Although many of original dancers are no longer performing, new dancers along with one man have been added to the group which now makes them The Golden Girls Plus One! They rehearse at the J with their director Emma Douglas. Emma Douglastook her first tap dancing class at age five and still remembers her first role as a “spoonful of sugar” in a production of Mary Poppins. Later, she continued tap dancing while teaching gymnastics, ballet, jazz and tap at Carol's Dance Studio and The European School of Ballet in Los Angeles, California. She studied Broadway-style tap and choreography and performed throughout Los Angeles with Carol Romeo, a former New York City Rockette. She is the creator of Tap n Clap, a program using music, memory and movement designed for seniors with memory and physical challenges. Robin Carlson & Jerry Foote are the Directors of Dance Force Productions, an award-winning professional dance company in Houston, Texas which provides dance entertainment for corporations, charity galas, fashion shows, Mitzvahs, and private parties. Their dance styles are Swing, Hip Hop & Breakin’, Disco, C&W, Latin, Tap, Sixties, & all types of Musical Theater. They are also Teacher Coordinators for Houston Swing Dance Society. Robin & Jerry have opened for One Republic, Maroon 5, Taylor Dayne, Los Lonely Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jeanie Tracey, Martha Wash, Gloria Gaynor, Archie Bell, the Village People, and were Lead Dancers for the musical Swing, Baby, Swing. Their love of dance and their love of God continues to keep them going strong in their teaching, creating, and performing.
