Registration Now Open for Fall and Winter Discovery Camps at The Health Museum Just in time for the holiday season, The Health Museum is now registering area children and youth – ages 5 to 13 years old – for its annual Fall and Winter Break Discovery Camps at the museum.

 

These fun and educational interactive learning opportunities will take place during the Thanksgiving, Christmas school holiday breaks in November and December. "For working parents, and young people who are looking for a fun adventure during their holiday break, our fall and winter camps are a great option,” said Dr. Melanie Johnson, president and CEO at The Health Museum. “We provide a safe and fun hands-on environment where children can truly explore their scientific interests with camps focusing on biomedical engineering, body systems, forensics, and more."

 

Fall and Winter Break Discovery Camps at The Health Museum will take place November 21 to 23, 2016; December 19 to 23, 2016; and December 26 to 30, 2016. All camps will operate on a 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. schedule, and will include interactive activities for children of all ages. Before and after care will be available for families who need it.

 

Camp sessions will include: 

 

The Clinic is Open (5-7 years old) – Bring your favorite stuffed or mechanical friend to camp and find out what happens when you visit the doctor! In The Clinic Is Open, campers and their pals will take a “medical history” journey and perform simulated tests just like a doctor! Campers will have a blast as they test their skills as M.D.s–Mini Doctors– and find out more about the world of medicine.•

 

Grossology (8-10 years old) – Did you know that the record for projectile vomit is 27 feet? Or that the acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve metal? Learn about these gross facts, make your own snot and more! This camp is great for kids who display a keen interest in their bodily functions!

 

Vex IQ (11-13 years old) – Discover the world of robotics in this fun, engaging camp. Explore the basics of learning to build and design robots that can be used for special activities. The camp will lay the foundation for future biomedical engineers to explore new frontiers in cutting edge medical innovations!

 

Medical Detectives (5-7 years old) – Do you think you’d make a good detective? Learn more about the science, techniques and skills used by professionals who solve medical and forensics mysteries for a living. Campers will take fingerprints, find trace evidence and more in this introductory forensics camp designed specifically for kids.

 

Itty Bitty Bodies (5-7 years old) – A summer experience for our youngest guests! Campers will be engaged with full of activities that include learning about their organs, constructing casts, skeleton models, dissections and more!

 

Brain Pop (8-10 years old) – What weighs three pounds, feels like oatmeal, and needs about 8 hours of sleep a night? Your brain, that’s what! Want to know more about the outrageous organ inside of your head? You’ll view a real human brain, dissect a sheep brain, learn about your senses, make an edible neuron and lots more in this incredible camp for the aspiring brain surgeons out there!

 

Mind Storm Robotics (8-10 years old) – Do you enjoy building, creating, and programming? Then, this camp is for you! Come and explore how to design different robots, and discover how robotics are used for different medical purposes.

 

Mini Medical School I (11-13 years old) – Do you enjoy science? Have you ever considered a career in health or medicine? This introductory Mini Medical School session gives campers the opportunity to learn life saving techniques including first aid and CPR, the anatomy & physiology of the amazing human body, using medical instruments, view real human organs, and experience hands-on dissections of small animal organs. Mini Med I explore the respiratory system, urinary system and much more. This is your opportunity to determine if a career in medicine is right for you! Mini Med I is not a pre-requisite for Mini Med II.

 

Mini Medical School II (11-13 years old) – Do you have what it takes to be a doctor? As you explore the many career options and opportunities available in the medical field, campers will learn basic surgical skills including suturing and stitching. Practice starting an IV and taking blood. Learn anatomy to properly read and analyze x-rays. Perform surgical dissections including triage and diagnosis All instruction is geared to give a real-life and hands-on glimpse into the field of medicine. The cost to register for The Health Museum’s Fall and Winter Break Discovery Camps ranges from $150 to $300 per course, per child.
