The first annual Game & Uplyft, coordinated by Uplyft Studios is scheduled to take place at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center, September 15th-16th 2018. Game & Uplyft is a community building event that uses eSports as the focal point and bridges gaps between gamers, music, fashion, and charity. This event will not only provide an unforgettable experience to all involved, but continue its impact long after by expanding opportunities for local students as future game developers. Uplyft Studios will use a portion of the event’s proceeds towards building game development centers to be known as “A Dollar and a Game” initiative in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods within the Houston Metropolitan Area. By doing so, we hope to give patrons the tools needed to build their own games. The skills learned at the facilities can be transitioned to other fields including software engineering and design for a variety of career paths. Some features of the facility:● Dollar annual subscription that gives each member the ability to invest in their dreams.● Monthly workshops on various elements of the gaming industry● Repurpose a foreclosed or rundown house into a self-sustainable facilityThe Main Event:● Featured tournament games will be: League of Legends, Fortnite and other eSports titles● Featured side tournaments will include: educators, charity representatives, veterans, parents and more.Outside of the video gaming competitions, this event is centered on community engagement. The following list describes the extended local community involvement.● Fashion elements will include:○ Local and National brand hosted activities and booths○ Each event day a fashion show will occur featuring a blended cast of models comprised of special needs children, cancer survivors, burn victims, terminally ill, etc....● Music elements will include:○ “Welcome to the Islands” Saturday Night Concert○ Break dancing competition Sunday● Charities and Family Activities: Featuring non-profit organization hosted booths○ Featuring a 3,000 sq ft balloon maze fully accessible for members of the special needs community and families of all ages
