Often beginning writers feel that finishing a draft of a story or chapter is the hardest part of the writing process, but sometimes revising and rethinking a first draft is much more complicated. In this workshop, we’ll work to take our first drafts to the next level by analyzing the narration, honing the voice, and sculpting the theme and motifs. We’ll examine how time and perspective in our stories can intensify tension. We’ll build our storytelling muscles by breaking our comfortable narrative molds and trying out different structures. Finally, we’ll punch up our prose with sentence- and paragraph- level revision. This workshop will incorporate the reading of published stories, articles on craft, and the sharing and analysis of our own work.
