Foto Relevance is thrilled to mark the Grand Opening of our new gallery space at 4411 Montrose Boulevard Suite C with a solo exhibition featuring the brand new series "Somewhere Else" from photographer Jane Szabo. The opening reception on February 8th from 6 to 8 pm will coincide with the opening of the FotoFest Auction Preview upstairs in Suite F of 4411, making the evening sure to be a lively celebration of Houston’s photography scene. "Somewhere Else" will be on view through February 28th, 2020. Foto Relevance is open Tues through Fri from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm, Sat from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, or by appointment."Somewhere Else" explores a yearning for a home or a sense of place that one cannot return to, no longer exists, or maybe never was. Throughout the series, hand-constructed homes are covered in a wide array of maps and photographed in natural settings and within architectural interiors. The maps that surface these homes do not reflect the location of the image, but are instead evocative of locations once explored or longed for, as well as the literal and spiritual journey of life itself. Both dream state and inner search, the series takes the artist and the viewer on a provocative path of escape and wonder.Jane Szabo is a Los Angeles based fine art photographer with an MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Her work investigates issues of self and identity. Using self-portraiture and still life as a vehicle to share stories from her life, her work merges her love for fabrication and materials with conceptual photography. Szabo's background in the film industry, creating prop and miniatures for theme parks, and overseeing set construction for film and television, undoubtedly informs her creative process.
