Gerardo Rosales’s art deals with issues of domestic labor, gender violence and class discrimination experienced by immigrants from Latin America like himself. In Rosales’s body of work, his native Venezuelan “naïve” folk and “neutral” expressions of abstract art, are purposely appropriated and paradoxically transformed into powerful vehicles to denounce poignant social problems. Living in Houston for the last 19 years, Rosales’s new work “Looking for a Hero” addresses local and immigrant communities at large. His exhibit is part of Latin Art Now in April 2019 and will be presented at 1412 W Alabama St, Houston, TX 77006 by The Transart Foundation for Art and Anthropology.
