MILDRED’S UMBRELLA HIGHLIGHTS THE ISSUE OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING WITH U.S. PREMIERE READING OF MY MIND IS FREE BY UK PLAYWRIGHT SAM HALL In honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company (MU) is presenting the U.S. premiere reading of Sam Hall’s MY MIND IS FREE, a play created out of the testimonies of traffickers and the trafficked. The reading series is presented in collaboration with 14 Pews, A 2 nd Cup and the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department at University of Houston with proceeds benefiting United AgainstHuman Trafficking (UAHT). Originally commissioned by Merton Against Trafficking for a 2015 fundraiser, MY MIND IS FREE is inspired by the true stories of trafficking as collected by Hall from various anti-trafficking charities in the UK. Managing Director, Rebecca Ayres says, “Not many people know thatHouston is a major hub for human trafficking, but with our proximity to the border and easy access to ports and major transportation lines, we’re kind of a prime location for traffickers, so it was important to us to highlight this issue through storytelling for our second event in our new Partners for ART outreach program.Tickets are pay-what-you-can with all proceeds benefiting UAHT. Tickets may bepurchased online at January 18, 2019 at 7:30pm at 14 Pews, 800 Aurora Street, Houston, TX 77009, January 19, 2019 at 7:30pm at A 2nd Cup, 1111 E. 11 th Street, Houston, TX 77009 & January 22, 2019 at 5:30pm at Rockwell Pavilion, M.D. Anderson Library, University of Houston, 4800 CalhounRoad, Houston, TX 77004
