Mother Dog Studios is pleased to announce Resilient, a site-specific installation by Michelle Matthews at Mother Dog Studios in Houston, Texas, on view from May 10 through July 31, 2019. Matthews’ ceramic sculptures reflect a momentary existence in a large, geologic span of time. Her practice is in a constant state of regeneration, in flux between fragility and endurance, form and process, and represents a continual cycle of life and decay. Resilient is an immersive environment engulfing “The Pit” gallery in the historic warehouse district known as Mother Dog.  A wave of raw clay flows through the gallery, pulsing with stilled energy, and redefining the interior landscape. Matthews often sculpts with raw ceramic materials to create ephemeral monumental installations. The malleable materials allow her to create unique installations that respond to the space and atmosphere they inhabit.  Resilient is the third iteration of her recycled raw ceramic work.
