Local Historian Barbara Holt gained deep respect for the Japanese people and their culture while living there during her husband's military service. Later she conducted in-depth research primarily on the Houston/Galveston Japanese. In this presentation, she will review the general history of Japanese in Texas and note their occupations and professions as well as their contributions. Barbara will also discuss their lives during World War II including their American military service and the famed 442nd and the Texas internment camps. Barbara is a veteran educator, a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Friendwood's Brown Museum, and a long time member of the Galveston County Historical Commission.
