South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery (Pearland) is hosting its annual service on Saturday, May 25, beginning at 10 a.m. and will remember the fallen with services featuring:• Invocation, recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of the National Anthem• Keynote by U.S. Army Veteran Juan DeLeon• Multiple readings and an honor roll call• Wreath-laying and flag-folding ceremonies • Access to the “Silent Hero” Exhibit Eddie Martinez, general manager, will share special remarks and “Taps” will be played along with a rifle salute. Both South Park and San Jacinto will offer a complimentary lunch for attendees. Memorial Day remembers those who died while serving our country in the Armed Forces. The practice of honoring our fallen began as Decoration Day after the Civil War when families of both Union and Confederate forces began to decorate the graves of the fallen. In 1971, Decoration Day became Memorial Day in an effort to remember all who died in service to our nation.
