Stepping Into the Land of Dreams: FOTOFEST 2020 Exhibition
This year the international biennale FOTOFEST is dedicated to the contemporary photography of Africa. We present photographs that were shot in 1957 in Northern and Southern Sudan by Soviet photojournalist and exhibition curator Nikolay Drachinsky (1917-1978).Opening Reception:Friday, March 13, 7:30. p.m.The exhibition comprises 28 color and black-and-white prints from the original negatives. These works make up one of the first photo reportages from the African continent published in Soviet media. While depicting reality from the perspective of class theory and anti-colonialism, Drachinsky’s visual story from Sudan is rich with his profoundly personal approach. In addition, we present the photos taken by Houston photographers Misha Tuvin and Natasha Artushin during their travels to several African countries.
