Instructions to register and link are available on our website. In 2011, Houston Independent District (HISD) implemented a district-wide Literacy Initiative to improve students’ reading scores on various standardized assessments. To that end, Asia Society Texas Center (ASTC) and Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) have partnered to offer a unique opportunity to students, with a focus on 4th and 7th graders. By developing a curriculum based on the concept of the Universe of Obligation, we highlight the common threads of human identity, agency, suffering, and compassion. The exhibitions in each of the museums will serve as the centerpiece to explore issues of both the past and present. This project will specifically focus on increasing literacy and effective communication of global issues. This day-long experience will tie into and reinforce themes being explored in the classroom through discussion, creative art and writing.Schedule9:00 – 11:15 pm | Tour HMH11:15 – 11:30 pm | Move to ASTC11:30 – 12:00 pm | Lunch (not provided)12:00 – 01:30 pm | Tour ASTC1:30 – 02:00 pm | Project & Discussion
